Cochiti is spectacular. A stunning male with a proud head and bearing, Cochiti has already impressed judges with his presence as well as his fleece in big company. His achievements include White Male Color Champion at both GWAS (Denver) and AlpacaFest West and most recently White Color Champion and the award for Best Crimp in the AWE Fleece Show 2006. The judge, Cameron Holt, the world's foremost expert on alpaca fiber, took one look at Cochiti's fleece and said, "Well, we can pack up and go home now. This is it." Cochiti's fleece exhibits excellent density, gorgeous bundling locks with incredible staple length. He offers the tremendous genetics of his sire, Augusto, and also the possibility of color since his dam is dark brown. His cria(in a range of colors) are exquisite, exhibiting elite style fleece characteristics and excellent conformation. Silver Rose Mathias is the culmination of four years of quality genetics rising to the top of a successful breeding program. Silver Rose Ovation has been making a splash since he was days old in the pasture. A ranch visitor, when Ovation was 2 months, stated that they wanted to breed one of their dams to him when he was old enough. A very astute ranch visitor. Ovation is the product of the best female we could find, bred to one of the most pre-potent stellar males in the USA, 4Peruvian Legacy, and he did not disappoint. Julio Sumar, while presenting Ovation with a Color Championship when Ovation was almost three years old, stated, "This is what we should all be breeding for." Unfortunately, Legacy has passed on, but fortunately has left us with a small piece of his magnificence which we hope will grow into a lasting legacy of all that he was. Ovation's first crias will be hitting the show rings later this year. They are spectacular with excellent conformation, absolutely stunning pheno-type and fleece that is exactly what we were hoping for! Snowbelt Hot Scot is a beautiful dark brown Full Peruvian Stud who was way ahead of his time. At 20 Microns at one year of age, he was bringing dense, fine fleece to the show ring when dark alpacas were considered fine at 23 or 24 microns. His density was something you could only experience. More than one observer compared him to a Berber carpet, just so much softer. In his prime from two years to six, he produced in excess of ten pounds of fleece.
At ten years of age, what do you look for in an alpaca stud? Well, for starters, how about offspring who can carry on your tradition of excellence. With close to 20 of his offspring as Color Champions or Rsv Color Champions, it goes a long way to saying this is a Pre-Potent stud who does consistently produce. Of approx 60 offspring, and with 25 percent not shown, this is a stunning figure. One out of every three a Champion.
Hot Scot has produced a multitude of offspring with fiber finer than his. His claim to fame is his extreme density and most bring their dams to him for that without giving up anything in fineness. Every year we are anxiously awaiting the cria that our Traviata will bless us with and this year was no exception. We were thrilled to have a beautiful white cria that had the most dazzling, bundling white fleece we had ever seen. He has grown into an amazing young stud and has a temperment to die for. He is so easy going, just a joy to be around, and on top of all of that he brings excellent conformatiion, and an exquisite fleece to the table. We wish we were still showing him, as his fleece has turned nicer with each year. He is one of those studs that will walk off with the CC at four or five years of age. Just an amazing package, but what we have come to expect from our four time champion girl, who never dissapoints us. We want to have access to this awesome stud and will consider a partial interest to a workable ranch.
